Meet the Downing family! John and his family were very hospitable and hosted my family on our return trip to Northern Virginia, returning from Indiana. We arrived at their home in Pittsburgh very late on the 2nd of January. Old man winter finally showed his face on our journey, and snow crippled the Ohio toll road. Hard to believe a toll of $17 (the cost of going from one end of the state to the other) doesn’t include the road being plowed, but I digress.
Zach is married to Natalie, and they have two healthy boys named Bryson and Ollie. Bryson is the oldest, with Ollie just being around a little under a year. They are very blessed.
LT Downing is in the U.S. Coast Guard, stationed in Pittsburgh. When he isn’t harassing me at my day job regarding the new USCG salvage and firefighting regulations, he spends a lot of time in the field doing inspections and has made his mark in the inland rivers. He’s anxiously awaiting the news of his next assignment, which will arrive this spring. He has his pick of locations in, but he has little idea where the Coast Guard will send him next.
Unless the Coast Guard sends him to Timbuktu, he’ll be at this year’s reunion. He was just at Kings Point recently to attend the graduation of a fellow classmate, Lucas Johnson, from NOAA school.
